It's Not Bragging; It's Advocating: with Amanda Jones

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Amanda Jones from Watson, Louisiana. She has the unique opportunity to work at the same middle school she attended several years ago. She is also the 2019 AASL Social Media Superstar: Program Pioneer!

In this podcast Amanda recalls many lessons learned and shares her accomplishments during her first year in the library.

  • Her motto was “change, change, change” during the early years in the library.

  • She advises new librarians to take their time making changes and to find other librarians to bounce ideas off of.

  • She followed Tiffany Whitehead and her blog for offering a lot of guidance. http://www.mightylittlelibrarian.com/

  • She recommends joining your professional groups early to build connections of support.

Here are a couple of Librarian Influencer strategies Amanda shared:

  • She conducts workshops and professional development, which makes her more of a leader on campus.

  • She tries to step up and be the voice for the librarians in her district.

  • She is focusing on an advocacy plan to show librarians do more than just check out books.

  • Know which social media platform is being used by the audience you want to reach. Ex. Many parents use Facebook, but students may use Instagram.

On Twitter she follows:
