Librarians Are Crucial Links to Help Students Succeed: with Narda Lugo

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Texas librarian, Narda Lugo. She has worked in an elementary library in Pharr - San Juan - Alamo ISD for the past 5 years and is preparing to switch to a middle school library next fall. Click here to listen to her interview now.

Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies Narda shared for early-career librarians:

  • Choose to do what is important now.

  • Run a collection analysis at the beginning and end of the year. It will guide your purchases, show whether your collection reflects your audience, and show you where to improve your collection.

  • Apply for grants to help you improve your collection.

  • Don’t sweat the little things. You’ll always have books to shelve. Your students won’t mind picking books from the carts sometimes.

  • Librarians are crucial links to help students succeed.

  • Advocacy is important. Be the voice for the students you are serving. Think about what you want your students and community members to remember after they visit your library.
