Create a Scaffolded Curriculum for Your Media Program : with Patty Duval

Updated: Nov 9, 2021

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Patty Duval. She is a Media Services Specialist providing district level support for librarians in her Florida district. Click here to listen now!

Here are some ideas Patty shared about creating a scaffolded curriculum for their media program:

  • Florida has library media guidelines/models called READS and FINDS. READS is the literacy piece of the curriculum standards. FINDS is the research piece of curriculum standards.

  • Patty uses these state curriculum standards to help develop a curriculum map for the elementary librarians. The curriculum map is tied to the ELA curriculum standards.

  • Patty also created a lesson plan template that includes drop downs for scope and sequence and standards selections. Then the librarians add in their activities for the lesson.

  • Her elementary librarians created a bank of activities to share with the other elementary librarians in the district.

  • All of these resources are housed in Google Drive and are provided as links through Destiny to all of the librarians.
