Without the Librarian the Library Is Just a Room of Books: with Kayla McNaughton
The Librarian Influencer of the Week is New Yorker Kayla McNaughton. After 5 years in the library, Kayla switched jobs this summer to become a Teacher Integration Specialist where she supports librarians and teachers across her vast county. Click here to listen now!

Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies Kayla shared for early-career librarians:
Jump in! It’s OK to try new things when you are the new librarian, even when you are replacing an awesome librarian. Your ideas are valid.
If your administration selected you for this position, they believe you can do the job.
You, as the librarian, are more than just the library space. The librarian is the real magic!
Don’t forget how amazing you are!
Her agency hosts Tuesday Talks where districts gather by primary and secondary librarian group and talk about what they are working on. The meetings are not recorded. It’s a time to brainstorm and support each other.
Partner with your public libraries to provide even more resources to your students and their families.
Think about this. What is it that you really enjoy doing as the librarian? Find a way to do that now, even if you are doing remote learning.
