Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies K.C. shared for early-career librarians:
Be patient. Things don’t happen overnight.
You may need to “re-educate” other educators and show them what a robust library program can do.
The D.C. librarians worked extra hard starting in March 2020 to show everyone what school libraries do to support instruction.
During remote learning she spends a lot of time teaching and identifying resources that support learning in the areas where students need extra support.
The school librarian is the great equalizer in the K-12 setting.
Librarians are up for the challenge of providing services to the entire family of the students who attend their school. We bring literacy and technology tools to everyone.
Regardless of a child’s zip code, all students deserve a certified librarian and a dynamic library program.
Perfect your craft in your early years in the library. Establish your strong foundation and then begin advocating for the needs of your students by telling your administrators about these needs.
Be observant about the needs of your students. Do they need after school access to equipment and resources? Find a way to support that need.
“Ear hustle” and listen to your students talk to each other. You can pick up on needs they have.
