Libraries for Lifelong Learning! with Jennifer Newcome

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Pennsylvanian librarian Jennifer Newcome. She was a special education teacher for many years. She worked in a middle school library and is now working in a high school library. Jennifer is one of the 2021 winners of the national award titled I Love My Librarian! Click here to listen now!

Here are some librarian influencer tips Jennifer shared:

  • Take care of yourself and know the job will still be there for you tomorrow.

  • Keep in touch with your professional network.

  • If you are not a tech person, let someone else (like a library assistant or colleague) take over your library social media account.

  • Jennifer wants to encourage librarians to take care of kids and let them know you care about them as people and learners.

  • Attend your students’ events so they know you care.

  • Schedule a Google Meet with students who are struggling.

  • Be interested in what your students are interested in.

  • Once they know you are interested, you can hook them with books and the knowledge that libraries can help them throughout their lives.
