Libraries Are More Than a Place for Books: with Zinnia Bayardo

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Zinnia Bayardo. Zinnia is a high school librarian in Northside ISD in San Antonio, Texas. She has worked at all school levels as a librarian. Click here to listen now!

Here are some librarian influencer tips Zinnia shared:

  • You can’t do it all and you don’t have to do it all.

  • Pick and choose what you are going to focus on and master each year. Find something you’re passionate about and really do that well by learning, researching, growing in that particular something so that you can then share all of that with your students, teachers, and fellow librarian colleagues.

  • Relax this summer and reflect on what worked last year so you can prepare for the coming year.

  • Write down your goals for the next year.

  • Update your website and library management system.

  • Plan out the bigger library programs you want to have next year.

Zinnia Bayardo considers herself a literacy librarian.

  • She focuses on information literacy and reading literacy. She sees how vitally important teaching information literacy is so that we can look for, evaluate, use and create information effectively.

  • As a librarian Zinnia has a positive impact on her students’ reading lives and takes that job very seriously because reading is so much more than just a test score.
