The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Melody Hiser who is a 5th-year librarian. She’s was originally certified in Texas and transferred to Oregon to a K-8 library. Most school districts around her have a lead district librarian and are run by para level librarians at the campus level.
You can hear her interview here http://laurasheneman.libsyn.com/librarians-play-a-crucial-role-in-student-and-teacher-success-with-melody-hiser.
Here are a couple of Librarian Influencer strategies Melody shared:
She had to work hard to show her staff, students, and parents what a school library can be.
Her enthusiasm helped make a big difference as she connected with the students.
She had a 5-year plan that helped her plan out what the most important things were for her students. This helped her focus on what to do first.
Librarians play a crucial role in student and teacher success.
Librarian Influencer Strategies:
She has set a goal to present to her school board to show them what school libraries can do.
Look at your campus’ needs and show how you are supporting those specific areas. This will help you share the value of your school library.
She asks students what they are learning so she can plan lessons to tie into the classroom lessons.
Librarians have been invited to help plan the district’s curriculum.
