Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies Christopher shared for early-career librarians:

  • Your Library support person can be invaluable when you are new in your role.

  • Plan out how and when you are going to do things. Put your newsletter, lunch, and breaks on a calendar.

  • Realize a librarian daily calendar is very different from a teacher calendar. Librarians need to be available during high volume times.

  • Be bolder than you were as a teacher! Highlight the good things you are doing. Especially focus on marketing to students and parents.

  • You have a wide variety of people who will use your space. Create a space for all of them.

Have a plan to be a professional librarian:

  • Identify services we provide to our community.

  • Make the service as good as you can make it.

  • Market it to the proper audience.

  • Look for other ideas from other school librarians.

  • He hosts Thursday morning coffee for the faculty to build community.

  • He has started a virtual reading challenge during COVID 19.
