Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies Christopher shared for early-career librarians:
Your Library support person can be invaluable when you are new in your role.
Plan out how and when you are going to do things. Put your newsletter, lunch, and breaks on a calendar.
Realize a librarian daily calendar is very different from a teacher calendar. Librarians need to be available during high volume times.
Be bolder than you were as a teacher! Highlight the good things you are doing. Especially focus on marketing to students and parents.
You have a wide variety of people who will use your space. Create a space for all of them.
Have a plan to be a professional librarian:
Identify services we provide to our community.
Make the service as good as you can make it.
Market it to the proper audience.
Look for other ideas from other school librarians.
He hosts Thursday morning coffee for the faculty to build community.
He has started a virtual reading challenge during COVID 19.
