The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Nora Galvan. She worked in both elementary and high school libraries and is now the Library Director at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD in south Texas. She also pursued her administrator certification in order to work at the director level in her district. Click here to listen to her interview now.
Here are some Librarian Influencer strategies Nora shared for early-career librarians:
Show how you differ from a paraprofessional who works in the library.
Be a good teacher with skills like classroom management.
Librarians need to know a little about everything to be well-rounded. Even when we don’t know the answer, we will work hard to find the answer.
Focus on educating the students.
Get teacher and principal support for your library program.
Empower others around you to be leaders.
Her summer reading program is called B.R.I.G.H.T. Summer Readers (Bringing Readers Into Greater Heights Through). This has been a district project for the last 25 years. https://www.psjaisd.us/Page/2791
