Collaboration Fosters Empowerment: with Cari White

The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Texas librarian Cari White. Here are some librarian influencer tips Cari shared:

  • Get to know your library vendors. They can help you learn to do things like analyze your collection.

  • Find a mentor as soon as possible. It will save you a lot of time on your learning curve as a new librarian.

  • Join Cari’s Facebook group and learn from over 17,000 librarians around the world.

  • Collaborate with other librarians and teachers on your campus. Amazing things can happen!

Tips on Using Learning Centers in Your Library:

  • Cari started using learning centers as a way to manage her students during their time in the library.

  • At the elementary level, students visited the centers after they checked out their books.

  • Centers allow for movement, collaboration, and even problem-solving. Library centers engage students in active learning.

  • At the high school level, students can visit the library centers using passes from their teachers. They might do something like create a beaded lanyard for their ID card.

  • Cari wrote a book called The Centered School Library which was published by Demco in 2012.

  • Set up some digital centers on your library webpage.
