Build your PLN to Build a Better Professional You: with Stephanie Galvan Russell
The Librarian Influencer of the Week is Stephanie Galvan Russell. She began her career as a freshman academy librarian and then a high school. She is now in a middle school setting which she thinks is the perfect setting!

You can find her podcast interview on my podcast page, your favorite podcast player, or by visiting this link http://laurasheneman.libsyn.com/build-your-pln-to-build-a-better-professional-you-with-stephanie-galvan-russell.
In this podcast Stephanie shares many lessons she’s learned on her journey as a librarian.
Her first school had 1,500 students!
She learned some principals want more of an administrative-librarian and others want more of a teacher-librarian. Be sure to ask questions during your interview to see if you are a match.
Communication with your administrator is key!
Here are a couple of Librarian Influencer strategies Stephanie shared:
Take pictures and share what you are doing in the library.
Host teacher lunch and learns. They bring their lunch and you share a quick training with them. And bring dessert!
Be on the teacher leadership team to be aware of more happening on campus.
She wants to build a student advisory board.
Stephanie has some advice for new librarians:
Self-care is vital!
Build your PLN, locally and digitally!
Find your “thing” and do it! Slowly build your skills.
Go to conferences aligned with what you want to learn.
My chat with Stephanie was very inspiring and filled with words of wisdom from a veteran school librarian who is intentionally building her professional network to help her grow.
